The director of one of 2023's best Soulslikes, Lies of P, has confirmed more details about the enhanced version of the game coming to the PlayStation 5 Pro. Largely considered the best Soulslike released last year, Lies of P impressed fans of the genre so much so that it's regarded as the best Souls game not made by FromSoftware. The studio behind it, Neowiz, has confirmed it's working on DLC for Lies of P and also has a sequel in the works.
Last month, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, a mid-gen refresh set for release on November 7. Coming in at an eye-watering $699, two-hundred dollars more than the base PS5 that launched four years ago, the PlayStation 5 Pro will offer two TB of storage, an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing, and other bells and whistles. Concerns about the refreshed console's price aside, a number of high-profile games have already confirmed PS5 Pro enhancements, such as Remedy's Alan Wake 2, Capcom's Resident Evil Village, RE4 remake, Dragon's Dogma 2, PlayStation's own God of War: Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7, and others. Even yet-to-be-released titles, like Assassin's Creed Shadows and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, will be enhanced for PS5 Pro upon launch.

Though different in a number of crucial ways, Lies of P and the upcoming Clair Obscur share one remarkable similarity, possibly signaling a new trend.
Neowiz has confirmed that Lies of P will join the list of games enhanced specifically for the PlayStation 5 Pro. In speaking with Eurogamer, Lies of P's director, Jiwon Choi, confirmed that Lies of P's PS5 Pro enhancement largely has to do with the game's performance, noting its Performance mode will be able to run at 4K resolution. On the flip side, the game's Quality mode will run at a smoother frame rate. "The precision and fluidity required for this genre are critical to the combat experience. Thanks to the PS5 Pro's outstanding performance, we're able to maintain an optimal frame rate at 4K, ensuring the gameplay feels as smooth and responsive as it should," said Choi.

This is certainly great news for Lies of P fans on console, but Choi refrained from providing the exact numbers of the game's performance upgrade. Thus, whether Lies of P's performance mode will run at 4K60 or 4K120 is yet to be known. It'll be interesting to see if the PS5 Pro will be able to help Lies of P reach 120 FPS, though such a high frame rate is mostly utilized in more competitive FPS games. The Quality mode's exact frame rate remains unknown as well, though it likely won't hit 60FPS. These exact numbers will likely be revealed leading up to the PS5 Pro's November launch.

In our soulslike, you must adapt yourself and your weapons to face untold horrors, untangle the unfathomable secrets of the city's elites and choose whether to confront predicaments with the truth or weave lies to overcome them on the journey to find yourself.
